design himalaya Nepal - dedicated to providing trekking & mountaineering adventures for small groups and individuals!
Guides and Leaders
At Design Himalaya, our guides are second to none.
In Nepal and Tibet, most of our guides are Sherpa. Probably the most famous of all the Nepalese mountain people without whom few summits would have been conquered.
On some treks and climbs, we also have experienced western leaders, in addition to local guides and sirdars.
Our guides are qualified and registered with the N.M.A. (Nepal Mountaineering Association) and are proficient in remote area first aid.
Our Sirdars (trek and expedition team leaders) are highly skilled in several areas, including wilderness medicine and first aid. They are happy to share their expert knowledge of flora and fauna, social history and traditional village life with our clients which will greatly enhance your experience in the mountains.
Your sirdar is there to efficiently look after day to day running of the staff and will make sure that all food is prepared hygienically and is tasty and nutritious.
You will be amazed at the variety and quality of the food our cooks provide whilst you are on trek.
If you would like to sample the food your staff are eating, they are only too happy to share it with you.
One of the lasting memories you will take home with you, is the time spent joining in with the locals.
Several of our Sherpa guides are Everest Summiteers, some more than once. All of our guides are experienced and qualified mountaineers.
About Sherpas
Design Himalaya Sherpas are all qualified climbers registered with the Nepal Mountaineering Association (N.M.A.).
All of our Climbing Sherpas speak good English and some are fluent in other languages as well.
A sherpa is a member of one of several different ethnic groups that make up the Nepalese people. Sherpas originally migrated to Nepal from Tibet some three hundred or so years ago and outside of Nepal are probably the most famous of the ethnic groups, due in no small part to the fact that the most famous of all Sherpas, Tenzing Norgay, was the first person, along with Sir Edmund Hillary, to climb to the summit of Mount Everest back in May 1953.
Your Sherpa team will give you some of the best memories of your adventure, their amazing sense of humour and fun and games will remain etched into your memory long after the holiday is over.
The last night of your trek or mountaineering expedition is a time to relax and there is usually a party with lots of dancing and music, a time to say thankyou for the help and kindness of your team.
Great fun for everyone!
